Meghan Markle reportedly returned her £13k engagement ring to former husband, Trevor Engelson, after their marriage ended in 2013.
The former Suits actress, then aged 30, and producer Trevor tied the knot in Jamaica in September 2011. Just one month later, Meghan was spotted on a red carpet wearing a sparkling diamond engagement and wedding rings.
Nestled next to a matching pave wedding band, Meghan could be seen sporting her first engagement ring – which featured a cushion-cut diamond in a grand cathedral setting and a thin platinum band with pave diamonds.
In January 2013, Meghan was seen with two more rings on her hand – another delicate one and a chunky diamond band. However, just two months later, the former actress and Trevor got divorced.
The pair reportedly got divorced due to “irreconcilable differences”. As reported by the Metro, Trevor was reportedly left “devastated” by his now former wife’s actions of returning the ring.
Unlike her first engagement ring to Trevor, Meghan’s ring from Harry is estimated to be worth around £120,000.
In an ITV documentary, ‘Prince Harry and Meghan: Truly, Madly, Deeply’, which aired in 2018, Meghan’s friend Abby Wathen spoke of how “empowered” Meghan felt after her first divorce.
She said: “We became instant friends. She always knew she would be successful, she just… knew it. She knows what she wants and she gets it.
“Meghan and I bonded because I was married and she was getting married. I was invited to her wedding but I couldn’t go. Then we both went through divorce, so we bonded on that too.
“I was destroyed, but she was empowered. She took her power back. It wasn’t the right relationship for her, so she moved on.”
Meghan later met Prince Harry in 2016, three years after her divorce. She later tied the knot with the Duke of Sussex in 2018. The pair now share two children: Prince Archie, five, and Princess Lilibet, three.
