More and more people will be spending time indoors due to the earlier nights drawing in and colder weather returning. Homeowners are more likely to be using their household appliances, in particular their oven.
As Christmas is just around the corner it is no wonder people will be turning to their ovens when inviting family and friends over.
Whether it is hosting cosy dinner parties, baking festive treats, or cooking up hearty meals, there’s no better time to get the oven in tip-top shape.
Funeral Guide has shared its magical and affordable cleaning trick that will have your oven sparkling again. Even better all it costs is just £1.50.
The experts use the classic combination of baking soda, dish soap, and white vinegar. Baking soda naturally cuts through grime without scratching, while white vinegar lifts away grease and adds a little extra shine.
Shoppers can find these items in supermarkets with baking soda setting customers back 65p for 200g in Asda or Tesco. Meanwhile, white vinegar will cost 85p for 568ml in Asda or Tesco.
Another item the team suggested was dish soap which is also “effective” for cutting out grease. This will cost 30p for 500ml in Asda. In total, this will cost £1.50 or less if individuals already have some of these items at home.
How to clean the oven with this step-by-step guide
To start, remove the oven racks and soak them in warm, soapy water for around 30 minutes to loosen any baked-on grease and grime.
Funeral Guide’s team said: “Taking the racks out lets you focus on the oven’s interior and soaking helps make scrubbing them easier later on.”
Next, mix about half a cup of baking soda with a few tablespoons of water in a small bowl until it forms a thick paste.
They added: “You want it to be the texture of toothpaste, not too runny but still easy to spread.”
Once the paste is ready, apply it all over the inside of the oven using a sponge or cloth, avoiding the heating elements. Just make sure to cover the greasiest spots thoroughly and don’t forget the bottom, sides, and glass door.
Then, let the paste sit for at least 12 hours or overnight. This will give it time to soften any stubborn, baked-on grime.
After it has rested, take a damp cloth and wipe away as much of the paste as you can. “You’ll see it taking a lot of the grease and grime with it,” Funeral Guide explains.
For any areas that need a bit more attention, a gentle scrub should do the trick. Then, pour some white vinegar into a spray bottle and spray it over the areas where you applied the baking soda paste.
The vinegar will react with the baking soda, causing a gentle fizz that helps remove any remaining residue.
Once the fizzing has stopped, use a clean, damp cloth to wipe down the interior of the oven. For a final, streak-free finish, you can go over it with a microfiber cloth.
A final polish with microfiber leaves it shiny and looks like new. Finally, after the racks have had time to soak, give them a scrub with a sponge to remove any lingering grease, rinse, and dry them before putting them back in the oven.
