F1 LIVE: Mercedes being ‘very unusual’ with Lewis Hamilton as Red Bull get two new drivers | F1 | Sport

Toto Wolff regrets the way he acted following Lewis Hamilton’s infamous collision with Max Verstappen at the British Grand Prix in 2021.

The high-speed incident left Verstappen needing to be checked over by medical staff, while Hamilton went on to win the race despite a 10-second penalty.

Reflecting on what happened on the High Performance podcast, Wolff said: “I could have reacted in a better way.

“I heard from one of the Red Bull engineers that he was fine. We went on to win the race and he didn’t score, so that was important to bounce back in the championship.

“In retrospect, I should have just picked up the phone and called Jos and said: ‘Is he fine?’.

“Jos clearly would have told me what he was thinking about that situation and that was fine. I should have, as a father, called the father of the driver and just ask, and I didn’t.

“We cleared the air on that one and there were many more incidents in that particular year that were not to the standards that we all expect from each other.”
