Britain is braced for snow if new weather maps are to be believed.
According to maps by WXCharts.com, huge swathes of Britain could be blanketed in snow as the country prepares for Christmas.
The snow is set to be accompanied by plummeting temperatures, with parts of Scotland set for nights where the mercury dips as low as -12C.
The freezing temperatures are set to hit on November 20, and central England, Wales, and parts of the South West could experience nights as cold as -3.
But the potential for snow will be greeted with equal measures of excitement and dread.
Snow is expected on the evening of November 20 and is set to venture south of the Scottish border for the first time this year.
According to WXCharts.com maps, wintery conditions could affect central and southern England and high-altitude areas of Scotland.
If the maps are correct, the anticipated snowfall will be as much as 15-20cm.
The Met Office are yet to warn of the potential for snow, as they said in their long-range forecast: “Many regions are likely turn unsettled, with northern and eastern areas probably having the most frequent spells of rain and showers.
“This also increases the likelihood of a spell of northerly winds and colder conditions.”
While lowland areas are more likely to see a mix of rain and sleet, higher regions are predicted to see accumulating snow.
Winds associated with low pressure, indicated by a pressure centre of around 989 hPa, could lead to blustery conditions, creating drifting snow in exposed areas.
This early onset of wintry weather reminds residents to prepare for potential disruptions, particularly in areas prone to snow.
Drivers in affected regions are advised to take caution on icy roads, while transport services may experience delays due to adverse conditions.
