The ‘most expensive meat to buy for Christmas’ – full list of prices | UK | News

With December being a more expensive month than most, making a saving on certain items can go a long way.

For those on a tighter budget, and yet to buy their Christmas meat, roast chicken would be the best option.

New research from InSinkErator shows that a medium whole chicken on average costs just £4.46. With more people than ever looking for alternatives options, it’s no shock that it also takes the top spot for popularity too.

With over 635,300 searches on Google in the last month alone, it may be advised to hurry down to your supermarket as soon as possible if you want a chance at grabbing the in demand meat.

On the other end of the scale, the most expensive Christmas meat is Turkey. With a medium turkey crown costing, on average, a whopping £20.95, it’s no wonder the quintessential festive item has dwindled in popularity.

Over the past month, roast turkey has garnered just 106,700 searches, falling behind options like roast chicken, roast beef, roast pork, and gammon.

Vegetarian alternatives have also risen in demand this Christmas.

Whilst many people seem to be opting for traditional roasting joints, vegetarian and vegan alternatives are all the rage this Christmas with there being 42,000 searches for nut roast and nut-roast-related search terms in the last month alone.

With some nut roasts on the market costing as little as £4.40, it’s a great, cost-effective alternative for those not too fussed about eating meat this Christmas.
