Xbox Game Pass fights back against PS Plus with huge month of new games | Gaming | Entertainment

Microsoft has announced the next wave of titles coming to Xbox Game Pass in January and early February.

After a lacklustre start to the year for Game Pass releases, it’s fair to say that things are well and truly picking up as we head into February. Indeed, if it wasn’t for God of War Ragnarok, Game Pass would have scored a rematch victory over PlayStation Plus.

The upcoming Xbox Game Pass release schedule is packed with new titles, including triple-A releases like Sniper Elite Resistance, which will be available as a day-one game from January 30.

Taking place within Occupied France, the third-person stealth game can be played solo or co-operatively.

In addition to Sniper Elite Resistance, Xbox Game Pass subscribers can download and play Lonely Mountain: Snow Riders, which is another day-one release.

The sequel to superb cycling game Lonely Mountain: Downhill, Snow Riders shifts the focus to snowboarding and skiing. It can be played with up to eight people.

More games will be available on January 22, including Flock, Gigantic: Rampage Edition, Magical Delicacy, Tchia and Starbound.

That’s on top of Capcom’s cult favourite strategy game Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, as well as unique detective game and personal favourite, The Case of the Golden Idol.

The Case of the Golden Idol sees players attempt to solve a series of mysteries by examining evidence and quite literally filling in the blanks.

The month continues with brand new action adventure game Eternal Strands on January 28.

“Eternal Strands is the debut fantasy title from Yellow Brick Games, a new independent studio founded by industry veterans from franchises including Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Watch Dogs, and Assassin’s Creed,” reads the official description.

“Fight epic, towering creatures while blending magical abilities with an arsenal of powerful weapons to keep the world from crumbling in this third-person, action-adventure game.”

I’m also quite interested to try brand new day-one release Orcs Must Die! Deathtrap, which is part shooter, part tower defence game.

Next up is Shady Part of Me on January 29, followed by the aforementioned Sniper Elite Resistance on January 30 and another must-have day-one release in Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector.

The sequel to the critically-acclaimed 2022 RPG, Starward Vector sees players control an escaped android with no memory of its past.

Finally, Xbox Game Pass subscribers can pick up epic first-person shooter Far Cry New Dawn on February 4.
