John Healey’s tough talk hides one uncomfortable truth about Putin | Politics | News

After the Russians were found “loitering” over vital communications and gas cables in UK waters, Defence Secretary John Healey was quick to talk tough and told Vladimir Putin:”We see you, we know what you’re doing and we will not shy away from robust action to protect this country.”

Hmmm. As we spend £65 billion on our “health benefits” budgets which provides everything from electric wheelchairs to compression socks, and just £54 billion on our military, it’s unlikely to cause concern in the Kremlin.

Add the Police hit ‘Every Breath You Take’ to the banned list. For the nation’s largest choir, the danger it could trigger distress in anyone who has been a victim of stalking means it has been removed from their repertoire due to the line “I’ll be watching you.”

In no way seeking to minimise the horrific impact of being stalked, but do you really think someone would do it as a result of this song?

As this Cromwell-like purge of content from radio and TV shows, movies and songs continues unchecked, perhaps you’d better have one last rendition of ‘Nellie the Elephant.’ After all, it’s about a circus animal and those acts were (rightly) banned decades ago.

As they promise to ‘build, baby, build’ to drive economic growth in this country and take an axe to acres of restrictive red tape, why can’t the government just say take off to a third runway at Heathrow Airport, a move which was first suggested THIRTY years ago?
