Ange Postecoglou stops dead in tracks and provides telling response in fan confrontation | Football | Sport

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou gave a telling response to angry fans shouting in his direction after his side were beaten by Leicester. In another hugely disappointing result for Spurs, they were defeated 2-1 by the relegation-threatened Foxes.

After the final whistle, Postecoglou shook hands with his players and gave a wave to fans who had stayed behind. The Australian then headed down the tunnel.

In a video recorded and shared on social media by a fan, Postecoglou overheared shouts from furious supporters who told him that he was dragging the club towards Premier League relegation. “You’re going to take us down! We’re going down with you!” screamed one individual as the Spurs head coach walked on with his head down.

Postecoglou, whose side are now 15th, initially continued to walk down the tunnel with members of his coaches but then returned to stare up at the fan. The 59-year-old glared for several moments before being led away by club staff.

One member of staff pointed towards the tunnel and Postecoglou followed him away. The former Celtic boss did not say anything to the fan but he was clearly unhappy over what was shouted.

Fans were angry over watching their side fall to a 13th defeat in 23 matches. A depleted Spurs went ahead against Leicester but fell to goals scored early in the second half by Jamie Vardy and Bilal El Khannouss.

Other supporters aimed their fury at chairman Daniel Levy at full-time. There were audible chants of “We want Levy out” inside the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

There is frustration over a lack of activity in the January transfer window. Goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky remains the club’s only signing this month despite a clear need for more additions. Postecoglou had only 13 fit senior players to face Leicester and he later revealed that Pape Matar Sarr – who was substituted in the 54th minute – had not actually been fit enough to start.

Postecoglou admitted in his post-match press conference that he had failed to “unify” the club. He also repeated his call for more signings to be made before the February 3 transfer deadline.

“I’ve said all along, the players need help and I’ve also said the club are working hard in that area to try to alleviate some of those problems, because Pape Sarr shouldn’t have played today. He obviously wasn’t fit,” Postecoglou said.

“The players are going out there and giving everything then can because we can’t call off games. We’ve got another game in three days’ time that these players have to front up for.”
