I made Meghan Markle’s favourite breakfast and it kept me full for hou


Prior to marrying Prince Harry, Meghan Markle ran a lifestyle blog titled The Tig, where she would often share recipes, among other posts – including a recipe for a delicious acai bowl that’s among her favourite breakfasts.

While The Tig has since been deleted, fans of the actress-turned-Duchess have archived much of its content online, with many of her favourite recipes still available.

Looking to try out a new breakfast, I stumbled across Meghan’s acai bowl recipe, which was shared both on The Tig and on Athena Calderone’s Eye Swoon, and decided to give it a go.

Talking to Eye Swoon, Meghan shared her ideal breakfast routine, telling Athena she opts for an: “Acai bowl, clean cleanse shake, or a green juice. If I’m at a hotel, I will likely order poached eggs and toast with avocado.”

Although she revealed that she’d pick some “blueberry johnnycakes with extra crispy bacon and maple syrup” when not picking a more health-conscious breakfast.

Opting to try out Meghan’s acai bowl recipe, I had to head out to purchase some frozen acai packets, bee pollen, and manuka honey, while the other items were fruits that I would typically purchase anyway.

Using frozen acai packets did make the dish rather cold, something that I’m sure is quite refreshing in sunny California. However, did leave me feeling a little bit chilly thanks to being in the UK in February – although this was quickly fixed by pairing the bowl with a cup of coffee.

Meghan’s recipe tops the acai bowl with berries, banana, coconut, manuka honey, and bee pollen, but you can pick pretty much anything to add to your bowl if making it at home.

Personally I stuck with Meghan’s suggested toppings, and found the acai bowl to be delicious, and something I will definitely keep in my breakfast rotation going forward – it also had the benefit of leaving me full until lunchtime, and I didn’t find myself reaching for any snacks in the hours between.

Ingredients

  • One frozen acai packet
  • 1/3 cup of almond milk
  • One banana
  • Handful of frozen berries
  • Coconut flakes
  • Fresh berries
  • A drizzle of manuka honey
  • One or two teaspoons of bee pollen

Method

Place the acai, frozen berries, and half the banana in the blender. If you wish, rinse the frozen acai and berries under hot water first.

As you start to blend, add half of the almond milk, slowly adding more until it reaches a thick consistency. You don’t have to use all the milk if you don’t want to.

Place the mixture in a bowl (freeze the bowl when you start blending if you want the dish to be super cold). Then, add which toppings you have picked.

Serve immediately, and enjoy your healthy and delicious breakfast.
