Lewis Hamilton has shown his support for Serena Williams after her role in Kendrick Lamar’s memorable halftime performance of ‘Not Like Us’ at Sunday’s Super Bowl LIX. Lamar broke the internet with his showcase at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, which featured special guests, including Samuel L. Jackson and SZA.
But William’s cameo was the biggest surprise and caused an explosion online, given her past with Drake, the target of the smash-hit diss track.
Williams once dated the Canadian rapper, who is embroiled in an ongoing feud with Lamar that has seen both artists exhange blows in the form of diss tracks.
As part of the mammoth choreography, the 23-time Grand Slam champion was filmed ‘crip walking’, a dance move famous in hip-hop culture.
Her appearance carried just as much cultural significance as it did personal, and Hamilton publicly showed love for the surprise appearance on social media.
The seven-time F1 world champion shared a clip of William’s crip walk on his Instagram story and added the caption: “Iconic.”
Hamilton and Williams have shared a close bond throughout their illustrious sporting careers on the track and court.
Both legends are in the conversation as the greatest of all time in their respective fields and have used their platforms to advocate diversity and empowerment.
Hamilton is known to be an NFL fan, having been spotted at previous Super Bowl events and becoming a part-owner of the Denver Broncos in 2022.
The Brit was part of the Walton-Penner family’s takeover worth £3.7million, citing the lack of black ownership as a primary reason for the venture.
He would’ve been entertained as he watched the Philadelphia Eagles deny the Kansas City Chiefs an unprecedented third consecutive Super Bowl triumph.
The Eagles were the underdogs but dominated the match, winning 40-22 to lift their second Super Bowl after victory in 2018.
Hamilton is preparing for his debut season at Ferrari after leaving Mercedes to race alongside Charles Leclerc for the famous team.
And Leclerc’s former engineer, Marcos Padros, believes the foundations for a successful year have already been laid.
“I think the base is very good. In 2024, the car was already strong. There is a good foundation to achieve success, and the people working in Maranello are very competent,” Padros told Formula1.it.
“The drivers are there too: we all know what Charles is like, while Hamilton still needs to adapt, which is normal.
“The faster that process goes, the better it will be for both Ferrari and him. But the team will manage this in the best possible way.”
