Driving expert shares best new car to buy with plenty of space and range

A motoring expert has urged drivers thinking about making the switch from a petrol or diesel car to consider three models that offer plenty of range and excellent value for money.

Held at the start of every year, the DrivingElectric Awards showcase the best new EVs to buy, along with accessories that can help to make running an electric car cheaper and easier.

According to DrivingElectric, the best new electric model to buy in 2025 is the Kia EV3, with Paul Barker stating it offers an extensive range and the same level of after-sales support as other models from the South Korean brand.

He explained: “With up to 372 miles of range from the 81.4kWh version, you can spend longer driving it than most EVs, while Kia’s excellent seven-year warranty is still present and correct too, so you and subsequent owners will be able to enjoy the EV3 for many years to come.

“It’s not a sporty car to drive – Kia still has the EV6 if you want a bit more dynamism – but it’s easy to get used to and the spacious, modern cabin is a pleasure to spend time in.”

Launched at the end of 2024 to replace the Soul MPV, the Kia EV3 is currently the popular brand’s most affordable electric model, with prices starting at £32,215.

The compact crossover was praised for offering a good amount of interior space, including a 460-litre boot, and its modern design that puts plenty of emphasis on build quality.

With the larger 81.4kWh battery pack fitted, the EV3 is capable of covering 373 miles per charge and can accelerate from 0-62mph in a very reasonable 7.5 seconds.

Paul suggested that drivers looking to buy a new electric vehicle on a budget should also take a look at the Citroen e-C3, which has a starting price of just £21,035.

He added: “The e-C3 rides well, ticking off a traditional Citroen strong point, and the boxy shape is practical too. Essentially it’s a proper car, and an electric one at that, at an accessible price point, and we like it for that.

“The Citroen e-C3 isn’t groundbreaking; it’s just a refreshingly simple and well-equipped electric car that won’t cost you a fortune. What’s not to like?”

Finally, the award ceremony also named the BMW i5 as the best premium electric vehicle to buy in 2025, with Paul praising the model’s refined driving style.

He continued: “We know BMW’s reputation in the executive car space but we were still surprised by how well the BMW i5 manages to update the brand’s familiar qualities for the EV era.

“It still drives like a BMW but with a whole new level of refinement and no small amount of performance.”
