Mould is a common issue in many UK bathrooms, causing unsightly stains and unpleasant odours. Thriving in high-moisture areas, including the grout around your shower tiles, it can be challenging to remove and difficult to prevent from returning.
Using a mould removal product on tile grout effectively kills mould spores, preventing regrowth and long-term damage. It also removes tough stains and restores grout to its original appearance without the need for excessive scrubbing. Fans of cleaning queen Mrs Hinch have been sharing recommendations to get it gone for good and one mould remover spray in particular, stands out.
Cleaning fans looking for an effective way to free themselves from the horror of mould took to the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook page where users share top tips for cleaning.
One product that is mentioned repeatedly is the Astonish Mould and Mildew spray. At about £1.50 a bottle, it costs just a few pence with each use, offering effective mould removal without breaking the bank.
When an anonymous participant posted asking for urgent help, the Facebook community were quick to responed. The original post read: “We are handing the keys back to our letting agent tomorrow and we are struggling to get black mould off the bathroom silicone and also discoloured grout inbetween tiles to the shower area. What are the best products to use to get mould off of silicone and to re-whiten the grout between tiles?”
Happy to help, fellow member Grace Osbourne wrote: “Astonish mould and mildew spray is one of the best, just spray well and leave for a few hours then rinse off.”
Rona O’Conner also recommended the product, saying: “Mould and Mildew Spray – either Astonish or Dettol. Make sure room is well ventilated when you use any of these products though”
Another member, Sandra Thewlis Clough added: “The Astonish Mould & Mildew is brilliant, just spray on and leave over night or a couple of hours then wipe off.”
With a bleach based formulation, sprays like Astonish help to kill mould spores and prevent regrowth. Suitable for use on tiles, grout, sealant, glass and plastic, it offers a more effective solution than bleach on its own.
Houseproud buyers who have already purchased the Astonish spray on Amazon have left over 2000 five-star reviews, echoing the sentiments of the Facebook group.
Some however, were a little concerned about the smell with one buyer saying: “Works well but my god it smells so strongly even with windows open, choose your times wisely to spray this if you live somewhere with smaller rooms”.
Other products suggested included HG Mould Spray available on Amazon for £3.95 or the Dettol Mould and Remover Spray, £10.50 for a pack of three bottles.
Alternatively, some natural solutions such as white vinegar can also be affective at removing mould in the home.
