Food splatters, grease, and oil can escape from dishes in the oven during cooking and baking, especially when using high temperatures. This residue can bake onto the glass over time, leading to buildup that’s incredibly hard to remove. While many specialist oven-cleaning sprays and pastes are on the market, these are full of strong chemicals.
Instead, households should first aim for a natural approach, but that doesn’t always mean using white vinegar and baking soda. Taking to her TikTok account @washy_wash, a cleaning influencer shared how to make oven glass doors “sparkle” with two natural household staple items.
Although this may sound strange, she recommends using soda crystals and an orange. She captioned her oven cleaning video: “Clean your oven door with an orange and soda crystals.
“Springkle soda crystals, squeeze out orange juice and scrub it down. Wait 10 to 15 minutes and finish cleaning with a cloth or kitchen paper towel. Your oven will be sparkling clean and you don’t need any chemicals.”
The acidic nature of the orange juice works to lift off all of the grease on your oven door and it leaves it smelling so fresh.
To do so, add water and orange peels to an oven-proof dish and put it in the oven for 20 minutes.
She added that the orange peels can even be “reused” multiple times to clean your oven.
One user asked what temperature the oven should be on with this hack. Tanya replied: “The lowest temperature is fine for 20 minutes as long as it gets hot.”
