Have the left-leaning movie executives of Hollywood still not learned that we are sick to our back teeth of politically-driven films, or do they simply refuse to accept the evidence before their eyes? Disney has tried time and time again to force its ‘woke’ agenda down our throats, costing the company around $1billion in losses. The soon-to-be released Snow White live action movie is yet another sermon extolling the virtues of inclusion, diversity and modern feminism.
I’m not against any of those ideals, in fact I actually support them – but only when appropriate. Snow White is played by Rachel Zegler, an annoying, whining actress who thinks her personal agenda must be thrust upon a paying audience – because she knows better than us mere plebs. Zegler has expressed views that align with progressive, feminist perspectives, and has openly discussed wanting to modernise Snow White to reflect contemporary values. Apparently it’s a bad thing that the character is a woman who lives with fictional dwarfs and gets rescued by a handsome man.
She claimed the original Snow White film was outdated and dismissed the romantic storyline, which is loved by millions of devoted fans, so much so that she suffered a massive backlash.
Zegler said: “It’s no longer 1937. She’s not going to be saved by the prince, and she’s not going to be dreaming about true love. She’s dreaming about becoming the leader she knows she can be.” Is this a flick about Kamala Harris or a make-believe damsel in distress?
Why can’t Snow White be saved by the prince? That is literally the story we know and the film we want to watch. In addition, Disney’s decision to not have real people play the seven dwarfs for fear of offending members of the dwarfism community is another example of misplaced virtue-signalling. While ‘protecting’ small people, Disney ended up taking paid work away from them.
Disney has an irritating habit of reimagining classic films with modern progressive themes, as seen in The Little Mermaid and Peter Pan & Wendy. Many view these changes as a departure from the classic storytelling that made them beloved.
If Zegler and Disney want to tell a different story than the fairytale we are familiar with, surely they can make a new film full of their holier-than-thou morals instead of bastardising one of the greatest ever fairytales?
I don’t want a millionaire actress or a multi-billion-pound conglomerate lecturing me about how the world should act, pushing their woke agenda on us through the medium of film. Am I not entertained? No, I am not.
