ITV commentator in cheeky dig at Princess Kate during FA Cup clash | Royal | News

Princess Kate appears to have been at the receiving end of a cheeky dig from an ITV football commentator.

Clive Tyldesley was commenting after striker Ellis Simms scored for Coventry during the club’s FA Cup clash with Wolves on Saturday (March 16).

The goal, which came in the 53rd minute, was followed by a VAR check to see if it should be ruled out for handball.

Tyldesley quipped during replays: “What you have to take into account now with the hand is, is it photoshopped?”

Fellow commentator Ally McCoist chuckled, before Tyldesley added: “And I don’t think it is in this case.”

The irreverent comment sparked a debate on social media with one person saying: “Kate Middleton catching strays in the FA Cup from Clive Tyldesley.”

A second chimed in: “Clive Tyldesley with a reference to Kate Middleton’s photoshop there, very good.”

Tyldesley’s comment was in reference to Princess Kate’s admission that she had edited a family photo released by Kensington Palace to mark Mother’s Day.

Kate apologised for the manipulated family picture, which was withdrawn with a “Kill” notice by international picture agencies.

The Princess of Wales said sorry with a statement on social media which read: “Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing.

“I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused.

“I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother’s Day. C.”

The Palace faced growing pressure over the incident with the controversy branded damaging to the public’s trust in the Royal Family.

Concerns were raised over a missing part of Princess Charlotte’s sleeve and the misaligned edge of her skirt, with other speculation including the positioning of Kate’s zip.

Despite the controversy, The Sunday Times reported that the Prince and Princess of Wales still intend to continue releasing photos marking their children’s birthdays.

Prince Louis turns six on April 23 and sources close to the Waleses told The Sunday Times no “firm decision” has yet been taken as to whether Kate will be behind the camera.
