Timotheé Chalamet ‘in talks to star in JJ Abrams’ take on Back to the Future’ | Films | Entertainment

JJ Abrams paid tribute to the likes of Steven Spielberg’s ET, Stephen King’s Stand by Me and the Goonies with his 2011 movie Super 8.

Given the popularity of Stranger Things in recent years, the appetite for such eighties sci-fi nostalgia is only growing.

Now the latest is that the director behind the Star Trek and Star Wars reboots is working on his own take on Back to the Future.

This doesn’t mean a remake or sequel to the adventures of Marty McFly and Doc Brown though, given that creators Bob Gale and Robert Zemeckis have said that will never happen.

Instead, Abrams is said to be working on a film inspired by the time-travelling trilogy, much like how Super 8 was inspired by those previously mentioned movies.

According to Giant Freakin Robot’s sources, a story that has been retweeted by reliable scooper MyTimeToShineHello, Abrams’ movie will be “something of a homage” to Back to the Future.

The report claims the director wants Timotheé Chalamet to star as his Marty McFly-style lead in a story about a young man travelling through time. Further details are yet to be revealed but it’s certainly a very exciting concept.
