Hair loss can be worrying when it happens, but it is a normal part of everyday life. The average person loses between 50 and 100 strands of hair daily.
If people start to lose more hair than that, it may be a cause for concern. According to NHS research, 6.5 million men and eight million women experience significant hair loss.
Numerous factors, including hormones, stress, illnesses, medication, and seasonal changes, can exacerbate hair loss.
With the weather getting colder, many people may notice their hair beginning to shed more. This is due to cooler temperatures, less sunshine and dryer air.
Cooler temperatures can strip hair of moisture, making it more brittle, and less sunshine means hair is exposed to lower levels of vitamin D.
Transplant experts Vera Clinic have shared a simple way to reduce seasonal hair loss without using a single product.
The hair experts suggested stimulating hair follicles with a scalp massage.
The experts said: “Scalp massages are a quick and simple way to reduce seasonal hair loss. They do this by causing the scalp’s blood vessels to expand, which strengthens the follicles and stimulates growth.
“Massages also prevent the buildup of dandruff, which can damage the scalp and, in some cases, lead to thinning or excessive shedding.”
To massage the scalp, use your fingertips and apply a light to medium pressure while moving in small circles.
When massaging the scalp, it’s best to cover as much of it as possible, paying particular attention to the areas with the most hair loss.
There are also massage tools that are designed for hair growth, such as combs, shampoo brushes and rollers.
