Nothing is worse than wiping down a shower screen only to discover it is still covered in smudges when you go into the bathroom later, but there is an easy way to keep it clean. Shower glass can trap soap, moisture and limescale that can begin to build up into more stubborn stains that will not budge unless you have the right product.
However, the cleaners at Flair Showers, have shared that you do not need to spend money on commercial cleaning products, as the best way to wash shower screens is with a lemon. They said: “Cleaning with a simple lemon is a great way to get rid of soap scum and hard water stains. The acid in the lemon will break down the build-up of any residue.”
Lemon juice works surprisingly well to clean glass as it contains citric acid that can break down bacteria and loosen stains to make them easier to wipe away.
All you need to do is cut a lemon in half and rub it in a circular motion all over the glass.
Once you have finished, leave the lemon juice to sit on the shower screen for at least five minutes to give it time to break down the limescale residue and other grime.
Next, simply rinse the glass with clean water, and wipe it down with a squeegee or microfibre cloth, and it should be sparkling clean.
You can also use white vinegar to remove limescale from shower glass, but many people do not like using it in their bathroom due to its strong, pungent smell that can linger after cleaning.
If you are still having trouble with stains, then your shower screen likely be dirty from soap scum, and you will need washing up liquid to remove the buildup.
The expert said: “It’s tried and tested and impossible to beat. Washing up liquid is the go-to option for making your shower door sparkle.”
It may seem bizarre to combat soap stains with more soap, but washing up liquid has been designed to dissolve grease on dishes and will work just as well with oils stuck to shower glass.
Just mix one teaspoon of washing-up liquid with warm water, dip a cloth in the solution and wipe down the shower door.
You only need a tiny amount of washing-up liquid for it to be effective, but if you use too much, it can cause smudges, so be careful.
Then all you have to do is rinse the glass with water, dry it and you will have a gleaming shower screen using only items you already have at home.
