Based on insurance claims made to ManyPets and customer insights, the top three most mischievous dog breeds have been named.

In light of thousands of claimants, the top dog breed that gets into the most trouble is the Labrador.

This is closely followed by the Cockapoo and French Bulldog, which are known troublemakers.

Vet Dr Rebecca MacMillan, BVetMed BSAVA PGCertSAM MRCVS, commented on the report, stating that there are different reasons for pets getting into mischief.

“Some of these dogs can have a stubborn or independent streak,” said Dr MacMillan.

“Whereas others are high-energy and will need an experienced owner who can give them plenty of time and attention.”

If you have a naughty dog, vet Dr MacMillan advised you to focus on “positive, rewards-based training”.

Dr MacMillan added that rewards-based training is the “best” approach, “especially if they’re naughty”.

She elaborated: “That means lots of treats, praise and encouragement – never punishments, raised voices or negative actions.

“Negative actions always lead to anxiety, fear, mistrust and aggression, which are the exact behaviours owners try to rectify in naughty dogs.”

The canine expert added: “Instead, positive actions, like clicker training, can build a strong, positive bond and better relationship between pet and owner.”
