Apple may be about to unveil a new device if a cryptic social media post is anything to go by. On Monday (March 4), Apple CEO Tim Cook took to social media to send a message to the tech world in the form of a six-second teaser video. The clip was shared on X and features a short message that says ‘There’s something in the AIR’, alongside a caption that simply says ‘This week’. While no further information has been revealed, we can be fairly certain that this confirms the many rumours that have been circulating recently suggesting a new MacBook Air is about to be unveiled. The news comes at the same time Apple has lifted the lid on its iPad Air M3 Chip device but a new MacBook model could very well still be on the cards.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman shared that Apple’s planned refresh of its MacBook Air could come as soon as this week, TechRadar reported.The standout upgrade is believed to be the move to Apple’s M4 silicon chip as featured in the MacBook Pro range. And as exciting as this news may be for Apple fans, it’s likely that the new device will come with a hefty price tag of more than £1,000. But there is a way to get a MacBook for hundreds less if you opt for one of the models released last year.
One of our favourite deals is from Back Market, which is offering Apple’s 13” MacBook Air (M3, 2024) for £792.52 as part of its ‘Verified Refurbished’ scheme. This marks a £306.48 saving compared to buying it new for £1,099.
If you’ve never heard of Back Market, it’s an online retailer that specialises in refurbished tech like laptops, tablets and smartphones. The main thing to consider is that this deal is for a laptop in ‘fair’ condition, but Back Market also offers an ‘excellent’ model for £949.
Whichever condition you opt for, the retailer says all its devices are ‘professionally restored to high quality’. The fair option may show ‘visible signs of use’ and its screen may have ‘micro-scratches’, while its battery life is suitable for ‘average daily use’.
However, for those who prefer to have a brand-new model, there’s an equally eye-catching deal over at Very, where shoppers can save £174 on the 14” MacBook Pro (M4, 2024) that’s dropped to £1,625 from £1,799. Another option to consider is spreading the cost with Sky Mobile, which offers a range of devices from the major brands like Apple and Samsung.
Among these is the 13” MacBook Air (M3, 2024) for £24 and a £2 upfront payment. This is the same model included in the Back Market deal, but the catch is that to get this price means committing to a 48-month contract.
Keep in mind that Sky lets members swap to a new device after 36 months, and monthly contracts like these usually end up more expensive over the life of the plan than buying the device outright. Even still, they offer a good alternative for bagging an expensive gadget without forking out hundreds – or thousands – all at once.
