Window cleaning is not the most glamorous of jobs, but it is an important part of home maintenance. While you can buy standard window cleaners at many stores, one commonly used item in your home will give you “amazing” results, claimed the cleaning expert behind the TikTok page @thecleancompany. She recommends households use any washing up liquid to achieve spotless and streak-free windows.
The cleaner captioned the video: “How to get streak-free windows. It works amazingly every time.” Starting the video, the cleaning pro said: “Here’s how to get your windows completely streak-free, all you need is some Fairy Liquid (washing up liquid).”
She starts with a damp microfibre cloth and rubs the washing-up liquid onto the windows.
While cleaning the windows, the expert said, “Honestly, it’s just amazing. It works every single time. You can use this to clean your shower screens, your mirrors, and everything like that.”
The cleaner then went in with a dry microfibre cloth and wiped down the windows to reveal gleaming results.
The cleaning professional said: “As you can see, it comes up absolutely streak-free every single time.” The process took less than three minutes with this method.
Commenting on shop-bought window and glass cleaners, she said: “Sometimes I find with glass cleaners, they can leave a layer on your windows. I’ve stopped using glass cleaner now for that reason, and this is all I use.”
TikTok users took to the comments section to share their thoughts on this window-cleaning tip. @lyndsaypearson wrote: “I’ve started doing this. It’s the best way so thank you for the tip.”
@sarah08190 said: “I’ll never use glass cleaner again after starting to use Fairy Liquid. Game-changer.”
@thetismfarm commented: “I clean every hard surface with washing up liquid. saves a fortune on cleaning products. It’s almost all you need.”
Before you start cleaning your windows with washing-up liquid, make sure never to do this in direct sunlight as the sun will cause the window cleaning solution to evaporate more quickly and will result in streaking.
