Laundry cleaning pro says kitchen staples can whiten towels

Laundry cleaning professional Babs – who goes by the name brunchwithbabs on TikTok – revealed two kitchen staples to add to the washing machine.

“I like to give sheets and towels a refresh each season,” said Babs, who demonstrated how she keeps her linen bright and white.

First, add the sheets and towels to the washing machine, then add half a cup of baking soda into the detergent dispenser.

Before putting on the wash, the next step is to add half a cup of vinegar to the fabric softener dispenser.

It’s important to separate these two kitchen items, as one fan pointed out that they “cancel each other out if you mix them at the same time”.

The fan, Jaemademedoit, added: “The machine knows when to use each compartment.”

Back to Babs, the laundry cleaning influencer advised people to “wash on the hottest setting possible” and to “dry as usual”.

In the TikTok video, Babs shows how yellow linen can transform into bright and white linen “in no time at all”.

“If you don’t have an automatic fabric softener dispenser, just stop the machine before the rinse cycle and manually add your white vinegar,” said Babs.

Once her laundry hack was finished, Babs showed off her “whiter, brighter” sheets.

Babs said: “These sheets are whiter, brighter, and smell so much better. Spring clean your sheets. You can do it!”

The video has garnered more than 144,000 likes and the comments are rolling in.

One user, imluvinlife, queried: “No detergent?” Babs replied: “Correct. No detergent.”

Another, bransonfun, asked: “Can this be done with coloured sheets and towels?” Babs replied: “Yes!”

Julie added: “I use vinegar in place of fabric softener for every load. It is incredible at taking out old smells and helping clean.”

A lot of people were concerned that the sheets and towels could smell like vinegar afterwards, but lots replied that it won’t.

When one asked what type of vinegar should be used, another person made clear: “White distilled [vinegar].”
