World Snooker Championship results: Higgins beats Allen in an epic as O’Sullivan wins | Other | Sport

Ronnie O’Sullivan takes on Stuart Bingham today as he begins his bid ro reach the semi-finals of the World Snooker Championship, but it’s another great Crucible champion dominating the headlines today. In a night that will linger long in the memory, John Higgins beat Mark Allen 13-12 on Monday after a 71 clearance in the final frame settled a remarkable contest. The Scot was 62-0 down in the decider before a missed red gave him an opportunity, and he rolled back the years to set-up a last-eight match with Kyren Wilson. Bingham himself contested an epic, winning the last two frames to beat Jack Lisowski 13-11 in a game that lasted more than eight hours.

Earlier in the day, the ‘Rocket’ had been in fine form to beat Ryan Day 13-7. He remains on track to win a record-breaking eighth world title in Sheffield, which would take him one clear of Stephen Hendry.

Fans will have to wait until this afternoon to watch O’Sullivan or Higgins in action though. First up, David Gilbert looks to continue his resurgence against Stephen Maguire, while Judd Trump plays the one remaining Welshman, Jak Jones.

Like the last-16 matches, the games will be best-of-25 frame affairs. And fans at the famous theatre can be braced for another nail-biting couple of days.

We could be in for another spectacular day at the Crucible if Monday’s action is anything to go by. So strap in and follow all the action courtesy of our live blog below…
