Newey, who has been an instrumental figure in orchestrating Max Verstappen‘s three World Championships at Red Bull, has been linked on and off with both Aston Martin and Ferrari this season.

Speculation has been rife suggesting that Newey was unimpressed by the ongoing saga regarding team principal Christian Horner‘s future, and that culminated in the 65-year-old deciding to end his stay at Red Bull for the 2025 campaign onwards.

While it has not been revealed where Newey is heading, he has previously discussed his regret over not working with Ferrari, and with Hamilton joining the team next year, Fred Vasseur’s outfit is a compelling option should the legendary aerodynamicist decide to stay in F1.

Asked how much he would like to work with Newey in the twilight years of his F1 career, the seven-time world champion replied bluntly: “Very much!”

Hamilton was then asked what Newey could bring to Ferrari. He responded: “Adrian’s known for… he’s got such a great history, track record and obviously he’s just done an amazing job through his career in engaging with teams and the knowledge that he has.

“I think he will be an amazing addition [to Ferrari]. I think they’ve already got a great team, they’re already making huge progress and strides forward… the car is quicker this year. But yeah, it would be a privilege to work with him.”

While Hamilton was delighted about the prospect of working with Newey at Ferrari, Sergio Perez was far less happy with the impending departure of his team’s star engineer.

“It’s obviously not ideal, someone like Adrian has been tremendous to our team and he is a very good friend of mine as well,” Perez explained ahead of the Miami Grand Prix.

“At the end of the day, he’s spent 20 years at Red Bull and I think he wants to do something else. And Red Bull is in a great place, it’s a very strong organisation.”
