Martin Lewis has suggested petrol and diesel drivers can find their “cheapest petrol station” with a simple click of a button.

The Money Saving Expert founder told road users to use a popular website and application to break down costs.

The tool shows varying prices at different stations and helps road users find the cheapest in a one, five, 10 or even 25 mile radius.

It could help combustion owners amid the cost of living crisis with fuel fees dramatically rising over the past few months.

Mr Lewis posted on social media site X: “Find the nearest cheapest petrol station near you… Petrolprices.com.”

Martin made the suggestion back in 2022 but motorists can take advantage of the crucial advice with Express.co.uk’s simple widget.

Road users have to simply enter their postcode below and which distance they would like to check in order to find the best rates nearby.

Data is taken from the Competition And Markets Authority (CMA) and is updated every morning so motorists receive the most up-to-date information.

Matthew Briggs, CEO of motoring experts Right Fuel Card urged road users to “plan ahead” to avoid being caught out by higher costs.

They stressed motorists could quickly “identify cheaper fuel stations” along a route by spending some time researching before getting behind the wheel.

They explained: “Sometimes the most convenient petrol stations are not necessarily the best priced. It’s crucial to plan journeys in advance to avoid an urgent refuel at a more expensive station, such as those found on motorways.

“By using tools such as a petrol station finder, you can identify cheaper fuel stations along your journey.”

Last year, new amendments were issued allowing the CMA to closely monitor road fuel prices across the country.

Fuel retailers and supermarkets are now required to reveal how much they are charging customers on their forecourts versus their profits.

Those that fail to follow the new rules could be slapped with a fine equivalent to one percent of their worldwide turnover of an ongoing five percent daily turnover fine every day.

Data from RAC Fuel Watch, one of the leading comparison sites for petrol and diesel prices in the UK, has revealed fees are up across the board in 2024.

Unleaded petrol prices are up around 9p per litre on average with fees jumping from 140.45p to 149.51p per litre over the past four months.

Meanwhile, diesel charges are around 10p per litre higher with high-street prices up from 147.62p in January to 157.99p in April.
