Lando Norris forces Sky Sports to issue apology in interview after winning Miami GP | F1 | Sport

Sky Sports were forced to issue an apology after Lando Norris‘ emotions got the better of him in his post-race interview at the Miami Grand Prix.

The McLaren star ended his long wait for a first Grand Prix victory with a masterful drive at the Miami International Autodrome, capitalising on a fortunately-timed safety car to inherit the lead.

From there, Norris saw off the threat of three-time world champion Max Verstappen, extending his lead to over seven seconds as he scampered off into the distance and sealed a memorable victory.

Speaking to Jenson Button after the race, he said: “About time. F***! Sorry! What a race! It’s been a long time coming. Finally, I’ve managed to do it.

“I’m so happy for my whole team. I finally delivered for them. Long day, tough race. Finally on top, so I’m over the moon. The whole weekend has been good. I’ve had some little setbacks along the way but I knew on Friday we had the pace.

“Just a couple of mistakes here and there. Today we managed to put it together. We did the perfect strategy and it all paid off. Thanks to McLaren, everyone. I’ll give a shout-out to my mum and dad of course.” Sky apologised after his interview for the bad language.

The newly-crowned Grand Prix winner also had a message for his McLaren team, who toiled away at the Woking factory to bring a staggering 10 upgrades to Miami.

“I’m just proud,” he continued. “A lot of people doubted me along the way. I’ve made a lot of mistakes over the last five years in my short career but today we put it all together.

“This is all for the team. I stuck with McLaren because I could believe in them and do believe in them. Today we proved exactly that.”

McLaren will now turn their attention towards the upcoming race in Imola. The circuit is extremely tough to pass at and with Norris’ track record there, Andrea Stella will be eyeing another strong points haul.
