Cruel moment King of Netherlands takes mean dig at Princess Kate | Royal | News

The King of Netherlands appeared to take a mean dig at the Princess of Wales, who is currently recovering after undergoing abdominal surgery in January.

Footage has emerged of the Dutch monarch speaking to a young girl, who said that she has “a photo with your whole family”.

Willem is alleged to have responded: “Really?… At least I didn’t photoshop it.”

The 56-year-old, who has been on the throne for over a decade, was referring to the latest ‘photoshop row’ – involving Kate.

The Princess of Wales, who hasn’t been seen publicly since last December, issued a statement via X earlier this week – apologising for any confusion that may have come from a new photograph shared last weekend.

Kensington Palace released a sweet photograph of Princess Kate with her three children – Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, eight, and Prince Louis, five – to mark Mother’s Day on March 10.

Following its release last weekend, the Royal Family were accused of editing the image – with fans spotting numerous errors in the shot.

The family image, which was supposed to have been taken last week by Prince William, raised speculation that edits had been made to the left sleeve of Princess Charlotte’s cardigan. Other areas of the picture also raised concerns about possible manipulation – including Kate’s missing wedding ring.

A statement, released by the mother-of-three, read: “Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing. I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused. I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother’s Day. C”

Following the Dutch monarch’s comments, a chorus of laughs can be heard coming from the group surrounding him.

Despite speculation of his comment, other people have translated it to, “Really? That was not photoshopped, apparently!”

The Princess of Wales underwent planned abdominal surgery two months ago, and has been recovering at home in Windsor since leaving the hospital on January 29.

The official statement, which was released about Kate’s surgery on January 17, stated that she would not return to duties until “after Easter”.

King Willam-Alexander’s comments are set to surprise many, with relations with the two families on good terms.

He was also pictured with the then-Duchess of Cambridge at The Hague in 2016.

King Willam-Alexander and Queen Maxima were also spotted at King Charles’s coronation last year.
