King Charles and Prince William ‘wanted to strip Sussexes of royal titles’ | Royal | News

King Charles and Prince William are said to have discussed stripping Prince Harry of his royal title, but didn’t for one major reason.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle now reside in California with their children after the pair stepped down as senior working royals at the start of 2020.

Royal expert and author Tom Quinn has told the Mirror that William and the King have engaged in “lengthy discussions” about the future of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s titles.

According to the expert, William and the King made the decision not to remove his title as they were both wary of how it could look from the public’s perspective.

However, he added: “[William and King Charles] have had lengthy discussions about stripping Meghan and Harry of their royal titles, but they are terrified this would backfire and make the situation worse”.

He added: “The last thing they want is to give the renegade royals something else to complain about.

“William and his father know that even without their royal titles Meghan and Harry would carry on travelling the world as if they were royals and most people in the world will still welcome them.”

Meghan and Harry were most recently welcomed on a visit to Nigeria, being referred to by their ‘Duke’ and ‘Duchess’ titles whilst there.

According to the Mirror, the couple were “delighted” that their royal titles were on display, with them proudly sat on chairs display the titles during a visit in the African country .

Meghan and Harry were previously accused of treating the visit like an offical royal tour, with the King and William angered by the way the pair were welcomed – and treated – in Nigeria.
