MP Lucy Allan ‘in talks’ to stand for Reform UK in another blow to Rishi Sunak | Politics | News

A former Tory MP suspended for publicly backing a rival candidate is in talks to stand for Nigel Farage’s Reform UK, it has emerged.

Lucy Allan was suspended on Monday after revealing she is supporting Alan Adams over local Conservative candidate Hannah Campbell.

Ms Allan has previously flirted with the then-Brexit Party, highlighting some “fantastic candidates” in 2019.

A senior Reform party source told i: “Wouldn’t it be funny if Lucy decided to take the plunge and stand in a nearby constituency for Reform.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if she decided to stand for Reform in Wrekin.”

If talks go well, Ms Allan’s defection to Reform could be unveiled in the Shropshire constituency by the party as early as this week.

The Reform source added: “We had Nigel’s press conference announcing our candidate in Dover, and he’s making another big announcement tomorrow [Thursday].”

On Monday, Ms Allan declared on X, previously known as Twitter: “I am supporting Alan Adams to be Telford’s next MP. If you want to help Alan or donate to his campaign, sign up on his website.”

Ms Allan would follow Lee Anderson in switching from the Conservatives to Reform.

Both Reform UK and the Conservatives have been contacted for comment.
