Johnny Depp set to star as Satan in new Terry Gilliam film with three huge stars | Films | Entertainment

Earlier this year, Monty Python legend Terry Gilliam supported Johnny Depp at the UK premiere of Jeanne du Barry.

And now it looks like the two who worked together on Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus have a new movie collaboration in the works.

As spotted in French media by World of Reel, Gilliam has now found the $30 million funding for his first movie since 2018’s The Man Who Killed Don Quixote.

The film is called Carnival at the End of Days and is set to star Johnny Depp as Satan.

And it turns out three other major Hollywood stars have been cast in the 83-year-old director’s upcoming project.

Johnny Depp will reportedly be joined by Jeff Bridges, Adam Driver and Jason Momoa, with January 2025 set to be the starting date of production.

Gilliam said: “We are trying to determine exactly when and where it will be done. For the moment, filming is scheduled for next January. We’ll see. And I have a pretty good cast […] now we need a woman to complete casting. And it’s going to be complicated, because it has to be realistic. And it’s going to be very expensive! We’ll see what happens, but it’s a good script. It will be very funny for those who like to be offended.”

Gilliam teased the plot of Carnival at the End of Days: “This is a simple tale of God wiping out humanity for f***ing up his beautiful garden Earth. There’s only one character who’s trying to save humanity and that’s Satan, because without humanity he’s lost his job and he’s an eternal character and so to live without a job is terrible. So he finds some young people and he tries to convince God that these young people are the new Adam and Eve. God still gets to wipe out humanity. It’s a comedy.”
