Man Utd set for return David Moyes bid as £15m offer prepped after failed summer transfer | Football | Sport

West Ham United are reportedly prepping yet another approach for Harry Maguire, as David Moyes looks to offer the Manchester United defender an Old Trafford exit route. Maguire was subject to interest from the London Stadium outfit last summer, but a move to West Ham failed to materialise, with the England international sticking around at United instead.

Despite two months of the campaign still left to play, attention is beginning to switch to the transfer window, with Premier League clubs gearing up for another hectic summer. Over £2billion was spent by teams in England’s top flight during the 2023 summer window and one side tipped to be active in the market again are West Ham.

That’s because according to The Sun, West Ham are eyeing up an end-of-season move for United man Maguire. The report claims Hammers boss Moyes is still a huge fan of the centre-back, and if the Scottish coach is still in charge come the summer, will push the West Ham hierarchy to make another move for him.

It comes after the 2023 Europa Conference League winners had agreed a £30million transfer with United for Maguire last summer, only for the deal to end up collapsing. Fast forward one year and West Ham’s interest remains strong, with the capital club hoping to take advantage of Maguire’s contract situation.

The ex-Leicester City man will have just 12 months remaining on his existing deal at Old Trafford by the time the summer window rolls around, and while United do hold an option to extend that by a further year, West Ham are confident they can pry Maguire away. What’s more, it’s claimed the east Londoners have earmarked a figure in the region of £15million for Maguire’s signature, as they look to pull off a cut-price deal for the Englishman.

It could prove the ideal time for Maguire to leave United too, given he’s yet to fully gain the trust of manager Erik ten Hag. While injuries within the United camp have provided Maguire with extra minutes this season, when Ten Hag has a fully fit squad to choose from, the Sheffield-born defender’s name isn’t on the team sheet.

At West Ham, Maguire would likely walk in as a first-choice option, with Moyes clearly fond of the 31-year-old’s playing ability. And given he’s in the latter part of his career now, Maguire can’t afford to not be playing first-team football, should he wish to extend his England career even further too.
