Man Utd in contract talks with three players as club confirm eight exits | Football | Sport

Manchester United remain locked in contract talks with three players ahead of the 2024/25 season.

One of those being Jonny Evans, who returned to Old Trafford last season, before registering 30 appearances across all competitions.

Evans had initially signed a one-year deal with the Red Devils, having been released by Leicester City at the end of the 2022/23 campaign.

But the Northern Irishman could extend his stay into another year, with United confirming the club are in contract talks.

Discussions are also said to be ongoing with back-up goalkeeper Tom Heaton, who has been at the three-time European champions since 2021.

Whereas promising youngster Omari Forson has been formally offered a new deal by United, with a decision expected to come in due course.

The starlet came close to signing a new deal back in November, but negotiations stalled, with Forson’s future believed to be up in the air.

It was reported by Fabrizio Romano earlier this week that Forson is tipped to snub the contract offer, instead leaving United as a free agent.

As for exits, United announced on Wednesday that a total of eight players will leave following the expiration of their contracts.

The most notable being Raphael Varane, who enjoyed a largely injury-ridden two-season stint at the 20-time English champions.

Similarly, fellow Frenchman Anthony Martial is poised to depart, having spent an up-and-down nine years at Old Trafford.

While academy graduate Brandon Williams is also on the chopping block, with his last senior appearance for United having come in December 2022.

Alvaro Fernandez is also heading for the exit door, with the 21-year-old completing a permanent switch to Benfica.

Whereas Charlie McNeill, Marcus Lawrence and Kie Plumley have all been revealed as departures for United.

And Tom Huddlestone is ending his stint as under-21s player-coach following two seasons in the role.

United finished eighth in the Premier League last season, but qualified for Europe by virtue of their FA Cup triumph over Manchester City.
