The best locations for a cheap holiday have been revealed by Brits and there’s one clear winner, as well as an entire region taking up the bottom spots. 

The full list of 28 countries is the result of the Post Office Travel Money Holiday Spending Report survey, and found a whopping 98 percent of respondents said Greece is good value. 

On the other end of the spectrum, there’s Scandinavia – full of stunning views and natural beauty but notoriously expensive. Only 38 percent of Brits rated the region, comprised of Norway, Denmark, and Sweden, as being good value. 

Also with an impressive score of 94 percent was Spain, which took the number two spot, followed by the Canary Islands in third with 93 percent. The islands are made up of Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, La Palma, La Gomera, and El Hierro.

Coming in joint last place alongside Scandinavia with 38 percent was Switzerland, another country known for it’s beautiful scenery but high prices.

The list was also broken down into short and long-haul destinations, with Thailand (89 percent) taking the top spot for the latter, followed by Mexico (87 percent), and South Africa (85 percent). 

On the other hand, Dubai was the lowest-ranked long-haul destination, followed by the US (67 percent), and Mauritius (68 percent). Dubai is also famous for its luxury and opulence, and a holiday there could set you back upwards of £1,000 per person. 

When just looking at Europe, the desinations that come out on top in terms of value for money are Portugal (92 percent) and Turkey (92 percent).

However, the worst-value destinations were found to be France (65 percent), Italy (79 percent), and Croatia (83 per cent).

The report discovered that 68 percent of families are planning to travel abroad this year, which can often end up costing a lot and putting people off returning to certain locations.

So if you fall into that percentage, this list will help narrow down your destination choice to make sure you get a fabulous getaway without breaking the bank. 

Overseas trips were named the top priority after paying for food, energy, and household essentials. Nearly 80 percent of holidaymakers said they had created a budget avergaing £334.47 per person, but only a third actually stuck to it.
