Aldi and Morrisons urgently pull chicken from shelves

Aldi recalled Ashfields Grill Four Garlic and Herb Chicken Kebabs over the weekend because of safety issues.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) said: “Aldi is recalling Ashfields Grill Four Garlic and Herb Chicken Kebabs because of a labelling error which shows an incorrect use-by date, making the product unsafe to eat.”

Aldi said the recall is a “precautionary measure” as the supplier labelled “a small number of products” with the incorrect use-by date of July 9.

The supermarket assured: “No other products are affected. Customers are asked to return this product to their nearest store, where a full refund will be given.”

Aldi added: “We apologise that this product did not meet our normal high standards and thank you for your co-operation.”

Morrisons has recalled a popular chicken product for another reason entirely, but it also means the food is unsafe to eat.

On June 7, the FSA noted that Morrisons recalled wafer thin cooked chicken “because it may contain small pieces of metal”.

The sandwich filler must be returned to the store for a full refund – and a receipt isn’t required.

Morrisons said: “Morrisons is recalling all use-by code because there is a potential risk that some packs may contain small pieces of metal.

“Please do not eat this product and return it to your nearest store for a full refund. We don’t need a receipt.

“No other products are affected by this issue. We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause and assure customers of our continuing commitment to the highest standard of product quality and safety.”
