Nigel Farage has insisted he will “not be bullied” after he found himself at the centre of another attack on the campaign trail. The new Reform UK leader was standing on an open-top bus in the centre of Barnsley, South Yorkshire, today (June 11).

As he travelled through the town, the waving politician was pelted with what is believed to be wet cement and a coffee cup. Pictures show him bracing for impact by raising his arm in front of his face. The wet cement is not thought to have hit him.

It is the second time in a number of days Mr Farage has been victim to such attacks, the first time being in Clacton-on-Sea, Essex, the town in which he is vying for a seat. He had a banana milkshake thrown in his face.

In response to today’s incident, he said: “My huge thanks to South Yorkshire Police today. I will not be bullied or cowed by a violent left-wing mob who hate our country.”

Mr Farage shared a video which showed a man in a red jacket throwing objects from a building site before being detained by police.

The 60-year-old had been addressing the public when he was forced to pause as a group of protestors got closer to the bus. It was reported that he had been told to remain on-board for the time being.

Victoria Thomas-Bowen, 25, was arrested at Clacton pier shortly after she tipped milkshake over the new Reform UK leader on June 4. The 25-year-old was charged with assault and criminal damage last Wednesday.

South Yorkshire Police said a man has been arrested on suspicion of public order offences after the incident in Barnsley.

The force said in a statement: “We have arrested a 28-year-old man on suspicion of public order offences following disorder in Barnsley town centre today.

“It is believed that the man threw objects from a nearby construction area. A suspect was quickly detained and remains in police custody.”
