‘I found royal wedding cup with odd Princess Diana detail’ | Royal | News

A charity shop find has confused Royal Family fans as they find a goblet with Princess Diana’s engraving on it.

Members of the r/RoyalFamily forum on Reddit were perplexed by the find, which bares the inscription of “HRH Prince Charles” and “Lady Diana Spencer”. The silver goblet, dated to 1981, left user Current-Scar-940 confused and eager to find out what the item was.

Obvious answers soon followed and confirmed it was a “commemorative goblet”. But the original poster was interested to see how much it would fetch at auction, prompting Royal mug collectors to reveal just how much the items are worth.

“I have a large collection of royal mugs and that don’t really have much resale value at all,” one user wrote. The goblet featured in the Reddit post did not appear to be of a rare or expensive variety, but the original poster had been curious as to how much they could make from an auctioned sale.

Similar goblets can be found on Etsy and eBay for anything between a few pounds and £20. Other users suggested finding potential markings, which may reveal a more expensive goblet had been found.

One wrote:”Probably just a commerative cup but check the bottom for any hallmarks or markings and look those up online. Those will tell you what the cup is made out of and what company made it. [sic]”

Another suggested the goblet could be a “wedding souvinir [sic].” Princess Diana and King Charles were married July 18, 1981, so the goblet could certainly be a souvenir of their wedding. This was not confirmed by Reddit users but did match the date on the cup, which featured 1981 on the front.

It also featured a seal of the Royal Family which read: “ich dien,” which translates into “I serve.”
