Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc was accused of “road rage” after a late collision with Lando Norris in the third practice session ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix.

The Brit was shellshocked as he went around Turn Five in Barcelona as Leclerc drove on past in the heated battle to usurp Max Verstappen, but he appeared to turn into Norris’ McLaren before speeding away.

Leclerc immediately swore on his radio as his antics were acknowledged by the Ferrari team, as Norris fumed in disbelief that Leclerc would make such a move.

“He just drove into me. I think I have got damage,” Norris said, with the incident set to be investigated by Spanish GP stewards and a possible penalty dished out.

Sky Sports F1 commentator David Croft described the incident as “road rage” while Karun Chandhok, also in the booth, added: “I don’t understand what Charles has done there. The tyres are used, he was slow in sector one, he was not improving on the lap. Why so much rage? It seems a disproportionate reaction to me.”

Leclerc and Norris were both sent to the stewards after the session, which saw the latter come into the paddock with damage after contact was made on his front tyre.

Set to meet at 1.15pm with the stewards, the drivers were in breach of a rule which reads: “At no time may a car be driven unnecessarily slowly, erratically or in a manner which could be deemed potentially dangerous to other drivers or any other person”

The Ferrari and McLaren drivers finished second and third behind Carlos Sainz in FP3, who ran for 1:13.013, but just 0.074 seconds separated the top four ahead of what promises to be a thrilling race for pole position.
