Monopoly to get limited edition makeover in honour of the Ritz hotel | UK | News

Humble board game Monopoly has been given a ritzy makeover.

The Ritz has launched a limited-edition version of the world-famous game that takes players on a money-grabbing journey around the upmarket area close to the luxurious hotel in London’s Piccadilly.

So Fleet Street on the original board, first produced in 1935, has been replaced by The Royal Academy and Bow Street has become Admiralty Arch.

The Ritz players have to pay for services from characters like butlers and hall porters.

And much like staying at the hotel, this special upmarket edition of Monopoly comes with a hefty price tag, costing £105 for the full-size board. If you’re seeking a travel-size version, its a mere £55.

The listing on the hotel’s website says: “This special edition takes you on a journey through Mayfair and St James’s and immerses you in the luxurious ambience of the iconic Grand Dame hotel.

“Whether you are a Monopoly enthusiast or simply looking for a fun way to reminisce about your stay at The Ritz, this custom edition is the perfect choice.”

Monopoly has been owned by Hasbro since 1991, who bought it from Waddingtons.
