Pierre Gasly invests net worth in football team that had Henry and Ben Arfa | F1 | Sport

F1 star Pierre Gasly has invested a small part of his multi-million fortune into third-tier French side FC Versailles. The team located to the southwest of Paris once had Thierry Henry and Hatem Ben Arfa on their books, with Gasly the next big name to be connected to the club.

The Alpine Team driver was announced as an investor on the club’s website, with a statement about the newly-formed partnership reading: “FC Versailles is proud to welcome Pierre Gasly, French Formula One driver, as its third partner-owner.

“Pierre’s decision to invest in FC Versailles attests to his desire to engage in a long-term development project for the club and to contribute to its success. As an accomplished high-level athlete, he will bring all his knowledge in terms of sporting performance. Its visibility in France and internationally will also strengthen the club’s influence.”

A self-proclaimed Paris Saint-Germain supporter, Gasly admitted himself that the decision to invest in FC Versailles is part of a long-term dream for the F1 driver. The 28-year-old said following the announcement: “I am delighted to get involved with FC Versailles because I have always wanted to get involved in professional football.

“With Alexandre & Fabien [the co-owners], we share values, ambition and a keen competitive spirit which will allow us to positively develop the club. This is the start of a very beautiful story. Go Versailles!”

And given the wealth Gasly has at his disposal, there’s every chance the Frenchman will be able to achieve his goal of taking FC Versailles through the divisions, should he continue to invest in the club. It’s reported that Gasly’s net worth is in the region of £26million, with the driver having earned big ever since breaking into the F1 scene.

Gasly made his F1 debut with Toro Rosso at the 2017 Malaysian Grand Prix, before eventually switching to Red Bull Racing in 2019. While that move didn’t last particularly long, the Rouen-born ace has been an ever-present on the F1 track since.

Transitioning across to Alpine at the beginning of the 2023 season, Gasly’s contract with the French constructor is up at the end of the current 2024 campaign, but it is suggested there is an option for an extra year. Just as well too, because Gasly has been raking in the cash ever since joining Alpine, with Forbes estimating he earned a handsome £6.3million for his efforts last year.
