A man and woman have been charged with murder after a 14-year-old girl was found dead at home, police have said.
Emergency services were called to an address on Geneva Road, in Darlington, County Durham late on Friday.
The schoolgirl was pronounced dead at the scene. Simon Vickers and Sarah Hall, both of Geneva Road have been charged with murder, authorities said.
They will appear before Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
“Investigative work is still being carried out at the scene,” Detective Superintendent Craig Rudd of Durham Constabulary said.
He added: “I would like to thank the local community for their patience and co-operation and to reassure residents that we believe this to be an isolated incident.”
The force said in previous statement on Saturday that the death was being treated as unexplained and that two people had been arrested in connection with the incident while police carried out enquiries.
A large emergency services presence on the street was reported by local media, and police had said officers would remain in the area on Saturday.
A spokesperson for North East Ambulance Service said: “We received a call at 10.46pm on Friday July 5 to an incident at a private address on Geneva Road in Darlington.
“We sent five resources in total including a doctor and a specialist paramedic. Police also attended the scene.”
