Wireless Festival 2024 review: Sensational line-up soured by last-minute changes | Music | Entertainment

Wireless Festival has, for a long time, been the only festival I find myself itching to go to with the artists performing often being the ones who show up on my playlists.

When I saw the lineup for the weekend with huge names like Tyla, Doja Cat, Nicki Minaj and more I had a great feeling.

I attended Wireless Festival on Sunday, July 14, 2024, thanks to Tyla and Doja Cat. As so many other fans did in the weeks running up to the festival, I listened to the artists I was going to see up close but couldn’t help but be a little disappointed with the news that Tyla actually wouldn’t be making an appearance just days before.

Instead, the festival would finish early so that people could watch the football match – while England playing in the finals is definitely something Brits were looking forward to it did leave festival attendees grumbling.

With the sun shining in the sky and an impressive range of food stalls inside, we decided not to worry about the dropouts. Rema kept the crowd energised throughout his performance but was let down when his final song Calm Down, which many fans had been looking forward to, was drowned out as the speakers failed. He continued performing with dancers but disgruntled crowd members booed.

Don Toliver’s performance was great, even bringing Rema and Sexyy Red out on stage which left the crowd ecstatic. On hearing Sexyy Red had graced the main stage fans ran at full speed to see her up close.

Although it was Doja Cat who saved the entire day. If it hadn’t been for her flawless performance I think many of those in attendance would’ve been disappointed. Doja graced the stage in a Union Jack corset and long red wig and performed hit after hit, barely pausing to take a break in between songs.

Her vocal control was so impressive that it was difficult to believe it was coming live, paired with seemingly effortless dancing Doja Cat was captivating throughout. Her renditions of Attention, Rules, Tia Tamera and Attention stood out above all. She even brought out a football in a nod towards the match taking place shortly after her set.

Overall I found myself questioning if I’d picked the wrong day to attend the festival, with it having multiple acts dropping out and an early finish – I do wonder if in future they’d play the match on the screens as many fans called for when the announcement was first made.
