Alan Titchmarsh’s two easy ways to make hydrangeas ‘shine’

Hydrangeas are gorgeous in the summer months, blooming in various colours including pink, purple and blue.

To ensure hydrangeas thrive all summer long, gardening expert Alan Titchmarsh has shared his care tips in a video on Instagram.

The video showed his stunning pink hydrangeas which also had shades of green and white running throughout.

In the video, Alan zoomed in and out to give his followers a better look at the hydrangeas.

In the caption, the gardening guru shared how gardeners can make their plants “really shine”.

It read: “Give hydrangeas good, moist soil and a spot in sun or dappled shade.”

Giving the flowers these conditions will mean they will “really shine” in the summer, according to Alan.

He added: “Blue ones need acid soil to stay blue, I’m happy in the pink.”

Alan’s video received many positive comments from his followers and was viewed more than 25,000 times.

Michelle Collins commented: “Beautiful, I have 16 of them in my garden.” Julie Gribble wrote: “Everything I see is so pristine. What a treat.”

Rachel Cunningham said: “What a lovely pink they are as well, I can’t match that, but I have a gorgeous white one.”

July is a great month for pruning hydrangeas, depending on the type, according to Nadezhda Yaneva, gardening and plant expert at Fantastic Gardeners.

The expert said: “Start pruning hydrangeas and removing spent blooms to encourage new flowers.”

Gardeners should also prune roses, fruit trees and wisteria throughout the month of July
