Removing stubborn stains from a carpet can be an arduous task that involves applying some elbow grease for more efficacy.
Luckily, an expert has shed light on an easier way to leave your carpet looking as good as new without spending loads on stain removal products and professional cleaning.
The most exciting part? This brilliant technique costs a mere £1 and can probably already be found in your kitchen cupboard.
Neil, a cleaning expert from Bust The Dust, shared his innovative cleaning hack with Expreess.co.uk, assuring it will be a game-changer for those struggling with unsightly carpet stains.
“The key ingredient here is bicarbonate of soda,” said Neil. “It’s something most people already have in their cupboards, but they probably don’t realise just how effective it can be for carpet cleaning.”
Bicarbonate of soda, also known as baking soda, has been lauded for its multifaceted use in the kitchen, but Neil emphasises its strength as a cleaning powerhouse.
“Not only is it great for baking, but it’s also a fantastic deodoriser and stain remover,” he explained. “When used correctly, it can lift even the most stubborn of stains right out of your carpet fibres.”
Neil’s method is simple, requiring just two ingredients: bicarbonate of soda and white vinegar – and he outlined the procedure clearly, ensuring it’s easy to follow.
“First, sprinkle a generous amount of bicarbonate of soda directly onto the stain,” instructed Neil.
“Then, lightly spray white vinegar over the top. You’ll see it start to fizz and bubble – that’s the reaction that helps break down the stain.”
He advised letting the mixture sit for at least 15 minutes, explaining: “This gives the baking soda and vinegar enough time to work their magic.
“After that, simply blot the area with a clean cloth or sponge, and you’ll be amazed at the results.”
To ensure optimal effectiveness, Neil advises testing the solution on a small, inconspicuous area of the carpet first, especially for delicate or antique rugs.
