Murder probe as man stabbed to death and two injured in park – killer still at large | UK | News

A murder probe is underway after a man was stabbed to death and two others were injured during a fight in a park in broad daylight.

Paramedics fought in vain to save his life, but the man, thought to be 20, tragically died at the scene.

Police were called at 7:38pm on Saturday, 27 July, to reports of a fight in Plashet Park, Newham, as exclusively revealed by Express.co.uk last night.

Officers attended and found a young man suffering stab injuries. Despite emergency first aid by officers and treatment by ambulance colleagues, the man sadly died at the scene.

A post-mortem examination will be arranged in due course. Officers believe they know the identity of the man, whom they understand to be 20 years of age. Enquiries are ongoing to identify and inform his family.

Two teenage males were also found at the scene, one suffering stab injuries and a second who had sustained head injuries. Both were taken to hospital; neither is in a life-threatening condition.

Superintendent Dion Brown one of the senior officers responsible for policing Newham, said: “I know this tragic and violent loss of life will cause a good deal of upset among the local community. I share their sadness and their concern, and I send my deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the young man who was killed.

“A murder investigation has been launched and continues at pace this morning, with skilled detectives supported by local officers and specialists from across the Met. This investigation will be exceptionally thorough and forensic in its nature.

“I urge any witnesses or anyone who has information to share what they know with police. We are determined to work with the local community to establish what happened and to bring to justice whoever was responsible for this senseless and brutal act of violence.

“Local people will see additional officers working in the area today and in the coming days. If you have any concerns, please do speak with them. They are there to support you and your community.”

Last night an onlooker told Express.co.uk: “There are about 15 police cars, several ambulance vehicles and the air ambulance has landed while a police helicopter is circling above.

“The paramedics and police are around at least one person who is injured on the floor. I got told it was a stabbing, but I’m not certain.

“Two police officers are holding up a sheet to obscure the view while the paramedics attend to the person.

“I have seen a forensic tent being put up, so it doesn’t look good.”

There has been no arrest at this early stage. Anyone with information or footage, or any witnesses yet to speak with police, are asked to call 101, quoting reference 6541/27jul. To remain anonymous, please contact Crimestoppers.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 7.38pm on Saturday 27 July to reports of a stabbing at the junction of Woodhouse Grove and Tennyson Avenue, Manor Park.

“We sent resources to the scene, including ambulance crews, an incident response officer and a clinical team manager. We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance.

“We treated three people at the scene and took two of them to hospital. Very sadly, despite the best efforts of our crews, a patient was pronounced dead at the scene.”
