Alan Titchmarsh’s quiet life in market town where homes fetch £378k


Alan Titchmarsh, 75, is a professional gardener and radio and TV presenter who has been gracing Britons’ screens for decades.

Titchmarsh started his radio career when he hosted the gardening show House in a Garden on BBC Radio 2. He then appeared on the BBC TV show Nationwide as a horticulture expert before moving on to presenting the Chelsea Flower Show for BBC television in 1983.

In 1996, Titchmarsh became the host of the BBC’s Gardeners’ World with the show even being filmed in his own garden.

He then began hosting the BBC One TV series Ground Force alongside presenters Charlie Dimmock and Tommy Walsh.

Away from gardening, Titchmarsh has published several fiction books with the first being published by Simon & Schuster in 1998.

Titchmarsh is originally from Ilkley, West Riding of Yorkshire but now resides in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

Him and his wife Alison moved into their Grade II-listed Georgian Hampshire farmhouse in 2002. The property is set among four acres of land which includes 10 mini waterfalls, a huge greenhouse, a shed and plenty of lush greenery.

The beautiful property is located in Alton, Hampshire and is reportedly worth a massive £1.25million, according to Entertainment Daily.

Alton in Hampshire is a market town with a rich history that was recorded in the Domesday Survey of 1086.

The thriving town has been described as one of Hampshire’s friendliest and is the former home of novelist Jane Austen.

The town, which was named one of the best places to live by Muddy Stilettos, is also known for its unspoilt, natural beauty, tranquil countryside and vibrant shops, eateries and pubs.

Muddy Stilettos described the town as “pretty and commutable” and filled with “chocolate box thatched cottages, barn conversions, Victorian and Edwardian houses and contemporary new builds”.

Titchmarsh also has a coastal home, near Cowes on the Isle of Wight, where he spends about a third of the year.

Homes in Alton, Hampshire had an overall average price of £377,661 over the last year, according to Rightmove, with the majority of sales in Alton during the last year being terraced properties, selling for an average price of £353,213.

Meanwhile, properties in Cowes had an overall average price of £343,195 over the last year.
