Tesco shares warning to those buying potatoes

When it comes to food shopping sometimes we go into the supermarket with a blank expression in knowing what to buy.

Seeing as food bills have gone up due to inflation and the cost of living it is no wonder Brits are taking precautions with what they buy.

However, one food staple in UK households is potatoes. Not only is the root vegetable versatile, but you can also cook it in different ways.

You can get your money’s worth with a bag of the veg lasting quite a while. But if you’re like us and struggle to get through a bag before they start going soft and sprouting then we have a hack for you.

This time it comes from supermarket giant Tesco who have issued a warning to stop food waste, in particular, potatoes.

While some people can easily get through a bag of potatoes when cooking a roast dinner for the family some of us struggle and they can last for a week.

Nevertheless, Tesco has shared what you need to do to stop throwing them away and letting them go to waste.

According to its website, “potatoes last well in a dark, cool cupboard, but if you’ve got too many to use before they start to sprout, the freezer is a good saviour”.

“Peel, roughly chop and blanch until just cooked, then spread out on a tray so they’re not touching. Freeze until solid, then tip into a freezer bag – roasties ready to go!”

So, if you’re looking to cut food waste this tip will certainly save you some money in the long run. Even better it will stop the item from going to waste.
