British shoe shop giant to close ‘wonderful’ high street store

The shoe shop giant has bid farewell to a dozen stores already this year with a seventh set to follow.

Clarks announced that it would be closing its branch in March, Cambridgeshire within weeks in what has been branded a sad loss for locals.

It comes just days after the popular retailer closed a shop in St Helier on July 27, after 24 years of trading.

Before this, the retailer pulled down the shutters on its branch in Stroud, Gloucestershire, on June 10 and also shut down its location on Marlborough’s High Street on April 22.

People who frequent the store have expressed their regret over the news that the Broad Street shop will close for good on Wednesday, September 4.

One woman called Joanne shared a heartfelt Google Review of the branch which read: “I love this shop! I find that I can usually get my size in store but if they haven’t got it the staff will do whatever they can to help. In all the years I have shopped here myself and now my grandson’s shoes I have had great customer service and the staff are lovely.

“This store has been in March for many, many years and a lot of people rely on it for themselves and their children’s shoes. It is with great sadness that we now have to lose our store and its wonderful staff due to another closure.”

Sharing another review of the store, which has been open for more than 20 years, a second shopper proclaimed: “[I] cannot fault Clarks at all.”

The store, on Broad Street, is currently holding a closing-down sale and the retailer thanking customers for their support over the years.

A spokesperson for Clarks said: “Clarks confirms its store in March will be closing on September 4th. We’d like to thank our loyal customers who have shopped with us at this store.

“We’ll be delighted to continue to serve them with our full range of products online and at our nearby Clarks stores in Peterborough and Kings Lynn.”

The shoe shop giant has hundreds of stores across the UK but has been forced to shut a large number of them over the years.
