Samsung and LG get a smart new TV rival with a low price that’s hard t

Samsung and LG might be the biggest telly manufacturers on the planet but they are getting some competition from a new budget rival. These latest goggleboxes to arrive in the UK are ludicrously cheap with prices starting from just £139 and don’t think that low price means bargain basement features. The Roku-powered TVs from Veltech come packed with features including full access to all of the most popular streaming services such as Disney+, Netflix and BBC iPlayer.

There’s also the option to tune into the exclusive Roku channel which includes a swathe of content for free such as movies and TV boxsets.

They even get full search options, are compatible with both Alexa and the Google Assistant plus iPhone users can cast content from their devices via AirPlay 2 technology.

For those that want a personal touch, it’s possible to fully customise the home screen as well.

There are three models to choose from including an entry-level 32-inch screen with an HD panel. Those wanting something a little bigger can opt for the 43-inch X230 telly which gets 4K Ultra HD technology for a crisper image.

All are on sale now at AO.com with AO members able to get a discount on the tellies – that brings prices down to as little as £119.

“The new Veltech Roku TV range marks another milestone in our TV partnership programme and sees the integration of Roku’s seamless streaming capabilities with Veltech’s impeccable TV quality. These new models are exceptional value for consumers and provide them with the perfect immersive viewing experience”, said Richard Halton, Country Manager at Roku UK. “We are committed to providing our customers with even more choice from their Roku TV experience, maintaining our position as a leading provider of streamed entertainment.”

Of course, budget smart TVs aren’t anything new with Amazon launching its own range of cheaper tellies last year.

The Fire TV screens usually start from from £249.99 but that’s been slashed to just £169.99 in the current summer sales.

Amazon’s televisions offer many of the same features found on Roku screens including full access to Alexa and streaming apps such as Netflix and Prime Video.
