She recently shared a straightforward cleaning tactic that promises to tackle even the most stubborn, baked-on messes without any harsh chemicals.

Erin confessed: “I have to admit, I never really paid attention to the inside of my oven door. I simply ignored the fact that baked-on food had been accumulating for years.

“I had never cleaned it in the five years we lived in our house, and let’s be honest, I’m guessing the previous owners probably didn’t clean it often either. This means I could be dealing with 14 years of greasy, grimy, baked-on food.

“While there are lots of tips and tricks on how to clean a glass over door, I love this method because it uses one simple, natural ingredient: baking soda.”

So what makes baking soda so effective? Well, its high pH level puts it at loggerheads with acidic grease and charred food, providing an abrasive yet gentle solution for grimy oven doors.

Emphasising the effectiveness and safety of the technique, Erin elaborated: “While using baking soda takes a little more time and effort than using an oven cleaner, it certainly does the job; and without harmful chemicals.”

A touch of baking soda, a trusty sponge, and a non-scratch scour pad are all you need to maintain your oven’s shine without the fear of scratches.

Begin your oven-cleaning adventure by liberally scattering baking soda over the glass. Then dampen a scour pad and swirl it to create a dense paste of baking soda.

Erin explained: “The goal is to cover the entire glass oven door with the baking soda paste. If you find you do not have enough paste, simply add more baking soda and water.

“If the paste is thick and clumpy, add more water; if it’s thin and runny, add more baking soda.”

Let this concoction settle on the glass oven door for a decent span of 30 minutes. For ovens that have seen better days, an overnight paste application delivers stellar outcomes.

Once marination time is up, re-wet the scourer and initiate the gentle scrubbing process in manageable segments, watching as the grease effortlessly peels off.

Then go in with a damp sponge to lift any lingering traces of your baking soda mixture.
