Zara Tindall and her husband Mike Tindall have three children together, Mia, 10, Lena, 6, and Lucas, 3.
As many other members of the Royal Family, the youngest child of Zara and Mike has a middle name – Phillip.
In an interview with ITV’s Good Morning Britain, Mike opened up on the poignant link behind this name. Phillip is his father’s name, the ex-captain of the England rugby team said as he spoke out about his adored dad’s battle with Parkinson’s.
Mike said that his most lasting memories with his father were playing rugby in the garden together.
He went on to discuss how frustrating it is for his father who wants to be an active part of his grandchildren’s lives but his illness unfortunately means he is unable to.
Zara’s grandfather was also named Philip, albeit spelt with just one l, so Lucas’s middle name has a meaning to them both.
The couple met at a pub in 2003 and got married eight years later in 2011. Zara is Queen Elizabeth II’s eldest granddaughter and Mike is a former English rugby union player.
Despite their lives being in the public eye, over the years they have maintained their privacy. Although they at times attend royal and public engagements, they have largely kept a low profile.
When they met in 2003, Mike had just been dropped from the England team leading into the semi-finals so he was watching the game in the pub in Sydney.
Zara was on her gap year there and left her number with his friend who passed it on to him. Mike messaged Zara and they met up back in England where they began to date.
After five months of seeing each other, they made their relationship official. They welcomed their children in 2014, 2018 and 2021.
